What is an egg?
An egg is oval or round shell or membrane by which some animals reproduce and from which the young hatches out.
An egg can be laid by many different species such as birds, fish, reptiles and insects.
A more science egg definition…
An egg is a single female germ cell, or reproductive cell.
It eventually develops into a new organism after it has been fertilized by a male germ cell.
Chicken Eggs
When most people think of eggs they think of Chicken Eggs.
Chicken eggs are oval in shape and they are brilliant for many great science experiments.
Chicken eggs are coloured white through the various shades of light brown’s and grey’s.
Egg Shells are grainy and bumpy in texture.
Egg Shell are covered with thousands of tiny pores.
Egg shells are mainly made of Calcium Carbonate – CaCO3
